The activities/athletic program contributes to the district’s educational objectives and a student-centered program at Petersburg High School and Mitkof Middle School. Winning is a major objective in athletics as it is in society, and teams or performers should always strive to win within the framework and spirit of the rules of the game and the principles of good sportsmanship. Although winning in sports is a major objective and a tremendous motivating force at the time, it is not considered to be the goal of athletic participation.

More important than winning is the growth that takes place in the participant. Participation in activities and athletics contributes to becoming a well-rounded citizen with a desire to achieve excellence, live a more healthful and purposeful life, respect for the dignity of others, and possess a willingness to make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of the team and to live by a higher code of conduct.

Petersburg School District and Mitkof Middle School traditionally offer numerous academic and athletic activities for students to be involved in. The Petersburg School District Activities/Athletics Department inspires champions today and prepares leaders for tomorrow by providing an excellent environment that allows students to achieve their highest academic, activity/athletic, and personal aspirations.

We are fortunate enough to have great support from the community, teachers, staff, and coaches to advocate for student participation in extra-curricular activities.
