Did you know that our middle school has a Lego Robotics team that travels and competes against other teams in the state? Every year, FIRST® LEGO® League releases a new Challenge based on a real-world, scientific theme. This year's theme is Submerged. Students will learn about how and why people explore the oceans. 🌊
We can't wait to see how they do this year!

🎶 Our talented 7th and 8th grade band students are back at it, practicing together and making beautiful music! 🎺🥁 Keep up the great work, musicians—we can't wait to hear your next performance! 🎵 The Winter Concert/Art Exhibition is already on the calendar for December 18th at 7:00pm.

Shoutout to our amazing middle schoolers who are stepping up and showing true bravery by taking over the morning announcements! 📢 It's not easy to speak in front of the whole school, but they're doing it with confidence and energy. We’re so proud of their courage and leadership! 🌟 Keep shining, leaders of tomorrow! 💫

Congratulations to our talented musicians!

🌎 Our 6th and 7th graders have been hard at work creating incredible posters on the 5 Themes of Geography! 📚 From Location to Human-Environment Interaction, their creativity and understanding shine through. There are too many amazing ones to share here, so swing by and check them out in person! 👀

The seventh grade volleyball unit in P.E. is making skilled players and a whole lot of fun!

Today's lunch hit close to home. The menu included "Alaskan Caught Black Cod with Carrot Top Pesto and Cucumber Salad". The black cod was provided by OBI, the garlic was from Farragut Farms, the cucumber and onions were from Washington farms.
As part of being Community Eligible Provision schools - this lunch was free for all students, every lunch is! The food was locally sourced in support of the SCALES grant (supporting community agriculture and local education systems) the grant that Ms. Carlee secured to bring the farm to our school.

Eighth grade students are learning to use the programming language, JavaScript, to program variables, consisting of animated shapes and sprites (or characters) and learning to set up different functions in a draw loop. This skill is one of the essential building blocks as students learn to program their own video games (which will be completed at the end of this quarter).

Big shoutout to our Petersburg community for always being willing to share their expertise and knowledge with our learners. Thanks to Cody Litster, with the Alaska State Troopers, and Carin Christensen, with the Forest Service, for talking about what they do! We love Petersburg!

Enjoy the October update!

Here are 6th and 7th graders sharing their models for why the Earth experiences seasons. Students collected data on sunlight angle, temperature, and day length to create a model to explain why we experience seasons. These photos show them explaining to their peers what they figured out in a mini "poster session" similar to one they might experience in college.

Our 8th graders are diving into Speech and Debate as part of their exploratory rotation! 🎤🗣️ Under Ms. Short’s guidance, they’re researching topics, building strong arguments, and prepping for counterarguments. These critical thinking and communication skills will serve them well beyond the classroom!

One elective that 7th and 8th graders get to take this year is outdoor science. Here they are in action nature journaling at Eagles Roost beach last week. They were excited to find little crabs under the rocks to add to their journals!

Congratulations to our outstanding musicians and singers.
