PSD students, staff, and families! Join in the fun! National Walk or Bike to School and Work Day is Oct. 12, 2022!
As part of the Petersburg Medical Center’s “Healthy Community Series” the Wellness Department is hosting a community Walk and Bike to School or Work Day on October 12th.
- Volunteer crossing guards will be stationed at various intersections from 7:40 to 8:15am in town to assist participants in getting to school/work safely.
- All bikers are reminded to wear their properly fitting helmet and bright colors and to ride in the same direction as traffic.
-Walkers should also wear clothing that is bright and easily seen, but walkers should be on the left-hand side of the road so you can see traffic coming towards you.
We look forward to seeing the community be active before settling in for their school or work day and thank drivers for their extra caution on the morning of the 12th.

PSAT: This will be offered in our school on October 12, 2022. Due date to sign up and pay the $18.00 fee is Friday, September 9th.
The PSAT/NMSQT is the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The PSAT is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT, but it's more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.

What's going on with PHS Sports this weekend?
The Cross Country team will compete in the Region 5 / Division 3 Cross Country race Saturday Oct. 1. They will compete in a 3.1 mile high speed race after a blustery rainy day in Sitka. Good luck to the team! May the Course Be With You!
PHS Swim team will compete in their first home meet with 7 other Region teams joining them in the pool. It will be an exciting weekend of laps, claps, and water slaps. Start time 5pm Friday and 10am Saturday . Viewing spots are open in the upstairs bleachers at Parks and Rec Community Pool.

Congratulations to Stacey Eilenberger for being awarded the National Rural and Small Town Award from the College Board Recognition Program.
She earned this recognition because of her academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT®, PSAT™ 10, and/or AP® Exams. She accomplished these milestones during an immensely demanding period of her high school career. Stacey holds an after school job, she is involved in the Associated Student Body, is a student athlete and is very community minded. We couldn't be more delighted to share this great news.

We have now completed a month of school. Great job! It sure goes to show how fast this all goes by, so make every moment count.

MS Baking Club on Wednesday, September 28th!
Due to having only 16 spots available in the kitchen for students, 8th graders get to sign-up first for the week on Monday. Then 7th graders get to sign-up for the remaining spots on Tuesday with any remaining spots going to 6th grade students.
Please pay the one time $40 fee for the baking club to the office. This helps cover the cost of all the supplies to bake. Looking forward to baking with students on Wednesday, September 28th from 3:00-4:15ish!

Middle School Youth Lead Club announced by WAVE!
Working Against Violence for Everyone believes in diversity and inclusion and promotes these values community-wide. These beliefs have encouraged us to launch a new Youth-Led Unity and Inclusion Club for Mitkof Middle School students. This club is intended to encourage our youth to share their experiences surrounding race, gender, and social equity within our society and the Petersburg community. WAVE hopes that through youth participation, we will uplift the voices of our local teens and identify student trailblazers to impact Petersburg.
WAVE is excited to announce that we will host our first Youth Unity and Inclusion Club meeting on September 29th at WAVE’s SHARED SPACE, 1103 S Nordic Dr. Suite A, from 3:30 pm-4:30 pm. This meeting will be our first introductory club meeting to recruit, hold introductions, and provide more in-depth information about the club. Join us for pizza, snacks, activities, and conversation with a group of your peers and club facilitators! Our goal is to impact our community through youth engagement.
